The Crochet Cupcake Stitch - a super easy stitch with a subtle 3D effect on the right side of work - is great for baby blankets, cowls, hats, sweaters, pet collars, wrist-and leg-warmers, bracelets, placemats, washcloths and more!
Use variegated yarn for the icing to add sprinkles to your cupcakes!
Multiple of 5 + 5 (begin) + 5 (end)
Here: 4 X 5 = 4 initial cupcakes + 10 = ch30

Foundation, R0-1:
R0: ch5 (counts as dc, ch2); (ch4, dc in 4th ch from hk, ch1) across for a desired length, here: 4 times; ch5 (counts as ch1, dc, ch1).
R1: (4dc in next dc-eyelet, ch1) 4 times across, sl st in 1st ch to join; ch2 (counts as hdc), turn;
R2:
a) optional: hdc in same ch as R1 join - works well with finer yarn and crochet thread;
b) required: (sc in ch1 space, hdc in each of next 2 dc, ch2, sl st in 2 top front loops of dc at base of 2ch just made - for picot, hdc in next 2 dc) across, sc in next ch1 space (i.e. over next ch), hdc in next ch; ch1, turn;
R3: sc in hdc, sc in sc, (ch5, sc in next sc) across, sc in top of ch2; ch 3, turn;
R4: ch 3, sc in ch5 space, (ch 5, sc in next ch5 space) across - here: 3 times; ch3, dc in 1st sc of R3; ch 3, turn;

Note: in the foundation row, the first and last ch5s can be reduced to 4s or 3s, if desired, depending on the effect you
re looking for, the combination of yarn and hook you are using, and the type of border you plan on making, if any. Make sure to subtract an equal amount of chains on both ends.
